Grok Voice 3.0 languages & pronunciation guide

Test multilingual scripts, numbers, names, and code-switching before you publish audio.

Choose a language test, not just a language label

Support for a language does not guarantee the pronunciation of your product name, a mixed-language sentence, or a local address. Start with the specific text your users need to hear. Check the current official documentation for the capability and language you intend to use; TTS language controls and real-time session instructions are different interfaces.

The homepage preview accepts English and Mandarin short scripts. Choose the matching language before generating, and listen to the complete result before using it elsewhere.

Build a five-line pronunciation check

Write one line for each of these cases:

  1. A normal sentence in the target language.
  2. A brand name or unfamiliar proper noun.
  3. A price, date, or phone-number-like sequence using fictional data.
  4. A question followed by a deliberate pause.
  5. A sentence switching between two languages.

If a line fails, change only that line and compare the next result. Editing the whole script at once makes it difficult to know what improved the pronunciation.

Write for the ear

Spoken language needs shorter sentences than a dense reference page. Expand abbreviations when the listener would not recognize them. Spell a number as words when the desired spoken form matters. Use punctuation to clarify meaning rather than stacking symbols to force a dramatic performance.

Keep a readable master script and a pronunciation-adjusted version, so an audio-specific spelling does not accidentally become the public written copy.

Test with the intended audience

A developer who wrote the script may mentally fill in missing syllables. Ask a fluent listener to transcribe the result without seeing the original, then compare. Evaluate meaning, intelligibility, pacing, and omissions separately.

For a live assistant, add turn-taking and interruptions in each target language. A good English session does not validate the same behavior in Mandarin. Track failures by language and script type so the next release improves the weak cases rather than repeatedly testing only the easiest example.
